Using Drama In The Classroom

This is a special opportunity for Ceredigion primary school teachers to attend a practical session to develop drama skills in the classroom led by Mari Rhian Owen of Theatr Arad Goch through the medium of Welsh.

Up to £100 per day is available to schools towards the cost of supply. *

Two modelling sessions will be held with a class of Key Stage 2 children, with the opportunity for teachers to observe first, and then work together when confident. The sessions will provide ideas for how to give a class the opportunity to learn new skills, respond to a stimulus and create – using the senses and imagination (methods that often support the processes of reading and writing). In this practical session you will become familiar with drama terms in the new curriculum progression steps. There will be an opportunity after the session to discuss the methods with Mari.

Mari Rhian Owen is an experienced performer, teacher and playwright who specialises in creating theatre work for young audiences. With over 35 years of experience in the field, all 13 of her plays have been performed, many of which have seen several different productions. Her plays have travelled to schools in Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire, to Welsh theatres and to international festivals. Two of her plays have been published, and her commissions include work for the NSPCC, the Urdd and the National Eisteddfod. As a creative educator, over the past 18 years she has developed a Language Through Drama approach that promotes learning Welsh through drama techniques. She also works at Aberystwyth University – as a creative writing tutor in the Department of Welsh and training Drama teachers in the Education Department.
