Statement

Rowan is an an artist and writer from Felinwynt, Cardigan.  Her work is informed by her agricultural upbringing and an academic background in theology and religious studies.  Rowan has a versatile process based practice founded in drama whilst calling on conceptual art, creative writing and image making.  She is greatly influenced by the work developed by artist and theatre Director Cliff McLucas under the title 'deep mapping'.  This place based practice seeks to use map-making as the starting point for a research led practice seeking different ways of representing place.  This can include science, geography, history, language, culturw and emotional responses to places and as such is a great model for accessing learning across the curriculum.  She recently worked with Model Church in Wales Primary School in Carmarthen to produce a mapping project based on the site of the Old Model School and its relationship to Carmarthen town.  The work developed through this project can be found on the People's Collection website.
