I am an Illustrator and Graphic Designer with a passion for creative thinking!
My illustration is collage/digital collage also using typography within images. Using simplified versions of this technique in schools makes it very accessible to children of all abilities. Children are able to create characters and environments to illustrate and animate curriculum topics, themes and literacy projects. This can be taken into animation using different stop frame techniques such as Zoetrope animation, Pixilation, cutout and simple models from found materials. Editing is part of the process - choosing sound, what to add/cut and adding effects.
As a graphic designer I use simplified techniques for layouts based on a common mathematical ratio, 'The Golden Ratio' (Fibonacci sequence) - the spiral - this is found in ancient Greek architecture and also nature. Using simplified maths sequences pupils can create patterns and designs and typography and explore history and the natural world. The programmes I use are Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
An underlying theme across these different areas is to play with ideas - encouraging and developing creative thinking, problem solving and the ability to find creative solutions and to have a lot of fun in the process...
