I am the author of around 80 books for primary school aged children (fiction and non fiction) and have visited hundreds of schools in Great Britain and abroad. I am very flexible with what I do in schools but as a general starting point would offer two basic types of sessions, or variations on them...
1. Lively, interactive performance based sessions designed to get children enthused and excited about books, reading and writing for themselves. These sessions consist of a mixture of storytelling and chat. I share some of my own stories, show how a book is made from the initial idea - through drafts and rough artwork - to the finished book. Children (and adults) are also encouraged to ask any questions throughout the session as this helps make the sessions more personal and unique and give more of an insight into what it's like being an author.
2. Writing workshops to help and encourage children to be creative and enjoy writing stories for themselves. These can be single sessions or can be done over a longer period of time to produce a more substantial piece of work.
